So, Who Won?

Following the unprecedented double unilateral (definitely not bi-lateral since both sides did not meet to agree) cease-fires almost simultaneously declared by both Israel and Hamas, I really will want to know: Who Won?

Hamas says they did.

"The enemy has failed to achieve its goals," Ismail Haniyeh, the top Hamas leader in the territory, said in a speech broadcast on Hamas television.

That is equal to a victory. QED.

It's strange however that it was the Hamas leaders who were safely ensconced in Syria and Egypt while the hostilities lasted who crowed loudest about the 'popular victory' over Israel.

Unfortunately, nobody asked the 1, 292 Palestine Arabs who made up the body count.

Israel says they did.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert told newsmen after the Saturday night cabinet meeting,

"All of our goals have been achieved successfully. Hamas was beaten." He added, "If Hamas decides to keep shooting, we're ready to strike back forcefully."

Nobody asked the 13 Israelis who died.

So what happens next?

Naturally the world would rally behind the Gazans to rebuild their infrastructure and their lives. Money will be pumped into their economy and houses will go up again and after some time, life will continue like it should.

Hamas will keep winning elections in Gaza and maybe even the West Bank. The home-made bombs will continue to fall on Israeli cities again and Israel will make some for about 5 years then they will attack again and then we will all shout again and .....

The cease-fires practically guarantees that Israel and Hamas are destined for another bloody brawl. And once again, the victims will be the Palestinian civilians whose streets and homes in Gaza are turned into a battleground.

When will we learn?

The devil won.

He's rejoicing wherever he is. He has accomplished what he came to do: to steal, kill, and destroy.

How many of those souls made it to heaven??

When will we learn? Judging that decades and decades of failed- peace- treaty this and failed- peace- talks that have brought nothing but more blood splatter and generations of Palestinian refugees ...maybe we will learn after another holocaust. Maybe.

@Vera: Very 'Nigerian' answer but unfortunately very true.

The so-called Devil will be rubbing his hands with glee - at the body count alone not to talk of all the suffering people- knowing that the cycle will sure continue.

More Palestinian will continue to to hate Israel and be ready to become canon-fodder for the next 'intifadah' (uprising) against Israel.

Of course, the next Israeli PM will also try to outdo Olmert by beating the current body-count maybe by another thousand bodies.

It's a vicious cycle.

To your second question -from what I know- all of them will make it to heaven but just in enough time for a round trip back to earth, if necessary.

Watch for the increased birth rate in the Israel/Gaza region during the next one year or two.

GOD always gives us another chance to love. Many thanx Vera.

@NDQ: A poet once asked 'How many times must the cock crow before the sun rises?'.

How long will this cycle of fuckery go on? Sincerely, I don't know. They say it has been going on for more than 5,700 years now.

Do we really need to another Holocaust to learn? Some people have said it never really happened, maybe they need to experience it to understand it.

Unsavory thought but then we humans never learn.

Many thanx for your comment.

It's a really sad event ut the worse part is that the western so called civilized world is to blame...they sponsor this wars and yet publically yell for a seize fire..

It is well....women and children slaughtered over a fight they had no hand in...nobody won...

"when will we learn?" we learn everyday but we simply choose not to allow whatever we learn stick.

the ceasefire aka recess surely has an expiration that. all thats needed to make it expire is for a fly dressed in hamas garb to venture into the site of isreali forces and swords would be drawn again.
or for isreal to feel hamas' flies are growing wings that need to be curbed.
and voila, we are back to operation kill the innocent.
